The day has arrived!

Yes! We are off to Orlando for one whole week, husband free, house work free, responsibility free!
Our holiday is here! Yasmin's friend Aoife and her mam Catherine is coming with us. There'll be lots of talking, shopping, eating and drinking!
I couldn't sleep well last night 'cos you always think you're going to miss that plane and my thumb was throbbing all night. I'm definitely going to lose the nail, (read yesterday's blog). But I got the tan done and my roots on last night, I scrubbed Yasmin through her screams (she has sensory conditions, she hates water, I hope she gets to tolerate it when she's a teenager!)
I'm having a pint of warm water and apple smoothie inside to set me up for traveling, I'll make a few sambo's for the plane, (I don't trust that airplane food) have my shower in peace and then I'll wake Yasmin to hear her shouts of joy!

Agony!

I am in so much pain!
I was running around getting organized earlier this morning as I'm off to Orlando tomorrow. I booked the dogs into kennels as my hubby has promised to do my back garden while I'm away! Delighted by this prospect, I didn't want to leave him any excuses not to do it, like the dogs being in the way........
My three huskies have had the freedom of my garden and have dug many holes and my plants have been well eaten, but now that I have my son Anthony's wedding next April I need it looking nice.
Back to the pain. As I was multi tasking this morning, I was getting the three very excited woofies into my jeep. I then slammed the door on my thumb! Yes! The pain, the numbing pain, worse than child birth if that is possible! And you know, I went and got my nails done yesterday, all painted shiny red with shellac. And because I'm a scruffy author, who walks her dogs, mucks out ponies and cleans her house, I never get my nails done and now this! Typical!
I know I'm going to lose my thumb nail but will I get way with it for at least a week looking glamourous in Orlando?

The Birds

Every morning I wake up to the birds singing outside my bedroom window. The first chirp starts about 5am and gathers pace and becomes strong by 5.30 and then I'm up. I used to say, 'Them bloody birds!"
Now I say, 'Them lovely birds!"I'm delighted to hear them and they remind me to be grateful for the gift of my hearing. What would the world be like without sound?
We take our gifts for granted, as if we are entitled to be able to hear, see, taste, smell and touch. In my brain washing to a more positive me, I became aware of the gifts of my senses and became grateful.
To be able to take pleasure from hearing beautiful bird sounds and seeing our beautiful earth is wonderful. Life is short. I like to get up early to make the most of my day.
When I was little my dad used to love birds and all things nature and would share his knowledge with us, taking us on nature walks and mystery tours. When his depression took him over, he couldn't find the way back.
I like to think that he's the little robyn singing in every path I walk as his favorite was the robyn.
And he's happy now.

The Change

For the last two years, my periods became scattered. I was having some night sweats although not too extreme. Recently I had a few weeks of flushes, again, not too extreme. I thought 'Yey, this is it, I'm going through the change!' So, just when I thought I had gone through 'The Change' I think the change is still changing as I feel after six months with no period that it is coming on now. That's the thing about  'The Change', your body is changing. It's shutting down all the production cells and closing up the baby shop. Your body can now relax and enjoy this holiday.
As I had my first period at age 11, it's not unusual to be in the change at age 48. To be honest I welcomed the change into my life like I'd welcome a new family member. I don't see it as growing old, I see it as that chapter of having children has now closed for me and I'm delighted. I still feel healthy and young and of course there'll be no silent fear of getting pregnant (as does happen more often than you think). I had my tubes clamped after I had Yasmin, but there was always those unusual cases where people still got pregnant. I had hoped that wouldn't be me! I love babies of course, they are adorable, but I am glad that my last baby is now 10 and that we are moving forward in life.
I was lucky with my periods in my life as I never experienced heavy bleeding or severe pain and the change seems to be not too severe either.
I suppose God couldn't torture me completely since my mind was mentally ill anyway and I always had to work on that. I couldn't be distracted with blood gushing from my vagina and physical pain gripping my tummy!
So all in all, I am very positive about 'The Change' because I am here to experience it and it is life.
I love life! Thank you God.xxx

My three huskies are like a naughty set of triplets!

We've always had dogs in our life, all sorts of dogs. Labradors, Collies, King Charles, Red setters, West Hyland Terriors, I loved them all!
Seven years ago, we got our first Husky, a beautiful blue eyed dog with a red and white coat. We called her Skye. She behave's like a true lady, Skye is almost angelic in nature and loves her family completely.
Three years ago, we re- homed a very hyper active Husky called Storm, he has one blue eye and one brown eye. Storm's coat is black and white and Storm is like an ADHD teenager! He needs to be free and cries and cries until he is brought out for his much awaited run in the fields each day! Storm is adorable though and very loyal. Each morning he comes in the kitchen, he likes me to hug him first!
We then got out baby Sully a year ago from Dogs trust. We think he's a half white German Shepard, he's all white with a slightly golden mask and he has soft hazel eyes. Sully's nose is slightly longer than the other two and he barks. Full Husky's don't bark, they howl!
Huskies are very intelligent dogs, they are also extremely sensitive. They love to be loved and to be included in family life. They need to be fed well and they need lots of exercise, but our huskies genetics  come from living obviously in Siberia. They hunt their food.
My lady Skye although angelic around humans will go after any small animal, cats,  rabbits, ducks and chickens. She is the leader of the pack and the other two will copy and follow her.
Living in Meath, we're surrounded by farms. I've been lucky up until now to be able to let my guys off their leads and run free in the fields. Then Skye discovered baby calves. She rapidly caught her prey and was trying to pull it's neck open. The other two quickly joined her. Luckily, I reacted fast. I screamed at my dogs and the baby calf escaped back to it's mother unharmed. I had to keep yelling and chased them way down into the next field. I got an awful fright myself!
I thought for a moment I should get Skye put down, but I didn't. We have tried muzzels but my dogs can get them off! So now, they are not allowed off the lead anymore.
A lot of people are getting huskies these days because they are so beautiful, but you need to know that they aren't a dog you can leave outside your back garden and ignore, because they will become angry and aggressive. Thats why hundreds of them are being abandoned when they reach adulthood.
And that's not fair on them. They are left sad and lonely and afraid.xxx Jean

Positive Thinking!

After struggling with depression most of my adult years, (It's in My Beautiful Flower), It's very important for me to wake up with a positive attitude each morning. This doesn't come naturally to me  of course, I was in a negative frame of mind for a lot of years, (which by the way is a path to depression), so I have to work on it. I'm very aware that I have to brain wash myself each day into positive thinking. I start this off by being grateful each morning. I looked out of my sunroom window this morning and a beautiful sun was rising in the east. I admire the beauty and I thank God for my beautiful day of life.
In the past, I would look at all the things I had to clean and do for the day with resentment. Now, I don't focus on those things right away, I focus on the present moment. I was also taught this by my counsellor Linda Keen (who wrote a book on parenting, really good!) who tried so hard to get me to live in the moment, which is really the key to not worrying needlessly.
Anyway Linda, you'll be glad to know that now I'm 'Not just trying!' 'I'm doing!' As you used to say to me.
Thanks Linda.xxx Jean

A Personal Assistant!

Oooh space is getting tight in this kitchen these mornings. I'm up since six am with Yasmin, who actually woke up a few times during the night counting the days till she is going to Orlando!
Anthony jr followed after us, then Anto sr 25, then Sarah 19, then Shauna 17 (my sister Sharon's daughter is staying for a week while her Mam is having a well deserved break with the girlfriends)!
Dogs came in next (my three huskies) and Catherine 32 (our niece) is still in bed.
It's very busy when you have a full house, feeding them, cleaning after them, washing their clothes, walking the dogs, basically managing them all. I guess I am their personal assistant really.
When I start making a few bobbers from my writing, the first thing I am getting is a cleaner, one that will iron too! I would need her every day so I would need to make a lot of dosh!
Anyway, although Yasmin is 10, because of her difficulties (it's in my book!) she is like a four old in her management skills and behaviour. She gets really excited if we're going anywhere and she can't sleep for weeks! The downside of this for me is that I also get as little sleep and I end up going away exhausted (but I'll battle through!)
Myself and my friend Catherine and her daughter Aoife and Yasmin are off to Orlando on a girly holiday next week. I'm really looking forward to it myself also as there is nothing like a holiday without men! We'll be able to shop in peace, we'll be able to go to all the parks, we'll be able to talk all day, it's going to be fab!
And there'll be the added bonus of no snoring!

St Patrick's Day in County Meath!

Well, it's a beautiful morning outside! The sun is shining and it's a crisp 6 degrees across Ireland today! Nice and fresh! No rain today! YEY!
We're going to dress up in our green finery and this year we're heading to our local parade in Ratoath Village at 12am.
There will be plenty of farmers pulling their carts full of cows and sheep. There will be tractors honking their horns and blowing exhaust fumes into the smiley faces of little children waiting eagerly for the floats who will throw out the sweets! There will be the oldest banjo players singing their Irish tunes on their ole trucks!
In the starting line, there will be hundreds of proud wannabies sorting themselves into their little groups, waiting to show off their glory for all to see. They'll be racing for the starting line in a chance to be glanced at for the prize for the best act!
The proud Rugby teams, GAA teams, Irish dancers, hip hoppers, soccer teams, music society's, toddlers groups, mammy's groups, grannies groups will parading for us all in their colorful glory!
But not a fancy dressed, colorful, balloon filled, singing dancing, dragon blowing float will be in sight!
This is Ratoath you know! And we are just making our way out of recession!
But what it will lack in in all that expensive glory, it won't lack in Community Spirit!
For everybody will be smiling and shaking hands and even hugging! They will be helpful to all. There will be the best cakes, sandwiches, coffees, teas and pizza's offered from our best restuarant's in Ratoath and when the children are all finally happy and fed and treated, we will all race to the pub to have that well deserved pint of Guinness!
Happy Paddy's Day to all.xxx

Mother's Day in Cabra!

After cleaning the house, walking the dogs, organizing dinner for the family (and giving my hubby some loving the night before..) I headed off with the mammy and the sisters for our dinner in The Canal Bar' part of a beautiful development off the Navan road behind the halfway house.
It's a very stylish setting overlooking the canal where on a nice summer's day you could sit out side and enjoy the canal boats coming and going. (It just so happened to be baltic yesterday!)
We enjoyed a beautiful traditional Sunday dinner, I have to say was fresh and hot and the deserts were a generous amount of pure delight.
Afterwards we decided to take our traditional Mother's Day route to Finbar's GAA club in Cabra. We were met with the Kareoke in full blast, although we didn't stand a chance for the microphone as there were a queue of XFactor wannabies!
The bar was filled to capacity with all the women I grew up around in Cabra and there wasn't a space to move as we danced the night away to 'Something Else'  a FAB band!
It was like a huge hen party! A few men did venture in to enjoy the view as the style was 90!
So, I'm grateful to have another Mother's Day with my Mammy and my sisters and my friends. xx

Saturday 14 March 2015

I'm so pissed!

I hate going to the hairdressers!
Even though I'm a hairdresser myself, I don't trust hairdressers. We really don't listen to the what the customer wants.
Hairdressers still go by what the person looks like on the day, so, if you're having a bad day and you're wearing your trackies, you will get a bad job. Or if you're shy and timid. you'll get a timid job! And if you're wearing no make up.... Forget it, you'll get some shite haircut! I kid you not. Been there, have the many T Shirts.
At least I had the decency to throw in the towel when I felt I wasn't giving the customer what they wanted (It's in my book).
Anyway, why am I pissed? Well, myself and Sarah went off into town to get our hair done yesterday. It was a beautiful Spring day and everybody in Ireland must've needed to go into Dublin yesterday. The traffic was mental. I sent Sarah on in to get her hair started while I got parking. After driving around for 45 minutes, missed my appointment and gave up, headed home. It wasn't meant to be!
Sarah however stayed and got her hi lites done and a trim and blowdry for the nice price of 190  euros!!
When I saw her last night, there were hardly any hi lites, a bad trim and a bad blowdry.
Come on Posh salon.. Do you really think that we can afford to throw that kind of money away on a bad job? By all means, put your trainee staff on the floor to color, but make sure you choose the feckin colors and charge accordingly for a trainee! And don't judge a person by what they look like when they arrive in your salons. I can garauntee that the mousiest person that walks inside your door is the most funnest and adventurest. A good hairdresser will encourage a customer to speak about themselves and then you will get a glimpse of their lifestyle.
So there you go. I will be coloring my own hair today and trimming it myself!

Friday 13 March 2015

Cleansing!

This week was all about catching up on myself. Yesterday, I was looking for a report for Sarah, of course, I didn't know where I had put it. I knew it was in my paperwork file, but I would have to go through it first. So, I went through my stacks of paper on my work table, beside the printer, in my drawers, in my files and yes I found it in the very last file I looked in! yey!
The good thing about that was I tidied and sorted as I went. It was great! I feel a bit more organized this morning!
Might actually walk the dogs before school this morning... it'll give me some extra time later on.
It's a lovely morning outside. I'm gone.

Thursday 12 March 2015

Me Year!

Ok, so it's the 12th March, but this year I'm going to concentrate on my health and my looks. To be fair, you can't really wear your make up while walking the woofies in the mucky fields in Meath, or have your shelac nails mucking out your pony. And after doing all of that, cleaning my house!
There is a reason author's got the name 'scruffy'. In my case it's sit down in front of my computer when ever I can after tending to our animals. Of course once I'm at the computer on a role for writing, I can be there for hours.
So, I often arrive at the school to pick up Yasmin looking quite scruffy!
But no, it's time to take stock! I'm going to make a better effort on myself.
So, Sarah (my 19 year old daughter) and myself set off to the doctor yesterday. Poor Sarah is in her first year in Art College and is suffering massive headaches and I needed to go get bloods as I am sure I'm going through the change at the very young age of 48! (I'll go into that later).
We also went for our eyes tested! As it's been about 25 years since my last eye test and I'm half blind using all the Penny's glasses, I said I think it's time to get proper ones. I'm always weary about proper glasses as I know they end up costing a fortune and I wasn't wrong! We went to the new eye place in Ratoath village where there's a lovely female eye Doctor. She was very thorough and I was glad to give some local support to our village.
However, I was relieved that I don't have any problems besides old age eye sight problems. I then booked myself and my Ma in for our nails and toes to be done on Saturday and I'm really considering the permanent eyebrows as mine are definitely on the baldy side. I'll think about that one as I know its expensive but I know it would be fab! My hair also needs a good sorting as I'm a fuzzy mess, (As a hairdresser myself, I'm too fussy to trust anyone else with a sizzors! Another story, another time)
But, I'm determined this week for sure to get it chopped!
I'll keep you posted.xxx

Hello wrinkles!

In my book, 'My Beautiful Flower' I talk about my self image when I was reaching puberty age. I hated how how looked then. Isn't it funny that at age 10,  we have an huge awareness of what pretty people should look like?
As I got older I was able to use the tools that helped me look attractive, hair, make up, clothes.
When I get well in my book, I have to love myself, and that means accepting myself for who I am and what I look like.
Now, after just turning 48 years of age, with wrinkles taking root on my face, I'm saying, well, this is me, and my first thought then is to be grateful to have another day of this wonderful life.

My first book 'My Beautiful Flower' by Jean Murray

Hi, this is the site where you will find my author's page for my first book  'My Beautiful Flower' amazon.com/author/jmurray
The page has all my interesting stuff about me , my family and my book. Keep an eye on it as I will update it daily.xx Jean

I have a gripe!

For anyone who has bought  property abroad... We also fell into the trap of a dream which involved retiring in the south of France. We bought a quite expensive two bedroom lease back apartment in 2007. This means you buy a property tied into a hotel group or management company, you can use it for some weeks of the year and the management company rent it out in the high season times and pay you a fee four times a year. It is backed by the government and we got pretty good mortgage deal and some VAT back. That is what makes it attractive to buyers.
Then the recession hit, so the management company had problems paying our rent. After all of these years struggling to get through it and pay our french mortgage, we finally got a chance to sign out from the management agreement and go it alone and rent it out ourselves, to try and make some good out of this glorified timeshare.
Not only have the management company behaved completely dishonest and unethical, the maintenance company is also as dishonest, by not repairing what they say they have and removing our washing machine from our apartment!
I found this out this morning when having secured a two month rental contract a couple of weeks ago, with a so called honest person, whom has decided he's not bothered paying our rent either!
Am I naive? Shouldn't I expect honesty in today's world?

It's a beautiful day!

Now that I have entered the world of blogging, into unknown territory, I thread carefully.
It's kind of like keeping a diary but it's open for anyone to read. I find I'm at my best for writing at 6am in the morning when the house is quiet, but this morning the sky was crisp and bright and a beautiful sunrise was there to greet me as I opened my sunroom blind on the east side.
The dogs were already playing excitedly and God help my neighbours, our dogs antics in the early hours of the morning must drive them crazy!
The winter went in very fast and I can see the Spring sunshine reaching longer into my back garden each day, which is now a mess, thanks to my woofies!
There's a reason they call it a Spring clean, because during the long dark winter days, we don't notice the mud, when the sun shines, we can see it all!
After I get the family off to their school, college and work, I'll take my three huskies out on a walk through the village. I had a great time walking them through the fields until last week Skye the female grabbed a baby calf from the next field! I got such a shock! The other two then joined in on the attempted kill! Thankfully, I got them of the baby calf before they hurt her and the calf return to its mam safe. I can tell you, my husky Skye is an angel in the house and with children, but now I'm going to have to be more cautious, she's lost her freedom now and will be kept on a lead now in future. What can I do!

Testing! Testing!

Hi!
This is my first blog post! I am really excited to have a blog, but as with all my adventures into technology, I'm not sure I am doing it right, but like everything else in life, practice makes perfect.
So, I have written my first book 'My Beautiful Flower' and it has been published by Austin Macauley Publishers in London. It was released yesterday on Amazon as an E-Book for the small sum of 4 euros!
This book is my personal story of my struggles with depression and my daughter Yasmin's struggle with her disability. Through helping Yasmin with her difficulties, I find my lost self and realize that gratitude for everything in life is the key to my happiness.
Yasmin is my little angel!
I look forward to any feedback on my book and will be delighted to answer any questions you might have.
Glad to meet you!        jean
